Professional Teeth Cleanings and Complete Checkups
There are a number of oral health issues that may not cause pain or may not be visible until they reach an advanced stage. Even if you follow a good oral care regimen comprising of regular brushing and flossing, it is recommended that you visit our dental office for checkups and cleanings at least twice a year. These visits enable us to check for problems and detect them at an early stage so that the appropriate course of treatment can be administered in a timely manner. Biannual visits to a dental office work well for most people. However, some people who are at a higher risk of dental infections may need more frequent visits. These include pregnant women, diabetics, smokers, people with cavities and gum infection, etc.
A regular dental checkup appointment at Sweet Water Family Dentistry generally comprises of the following:
- Dental Cleaning (Prophylaxis): A professional dental cleaning performed by a dentist or a dental hygienist helps clean the mouth thoroughly. The procedure consists of scraping below and along the gum line using special dental instruments to remove tartar and plaque. The teeth are then flossed and polished. This helps in the prevention of bad breath, cavities, gum disease and a host of other oral health problems.
- A Full Dental Checkup: This involves a thorough examination of your gums, teeth, tongue, inner cheek lining and mouth to check for any signs of decay or other dental problems. A dental checkup helps to identify issues at an early stage so that they can be treated and your dental health can be restored to a perfect state.
- Digital X-Rays: X-rays can help in detecting problems which may otherwise be invisible to the naked eye, such as impacted teeth, decay between the teeth, tumors, cysts, damage to jawbones, etc. We make use of digital X-Rays that emit much less radiation than traditional X-Rays and offer an easy way to transfer dental records.
